Future Tense Trees (Ftt:) is a tree nursery nested within Bioconcentric Farms’ developing consortium of ecologically based businesses. Other businesses include Perennation, a nursery focused on native edible plant production. Bioconcentric Farms is the Rural Design Studio of ICES, testing new frontiers of ecological restoration and business model development. Modeling is beginning with profit sharing, migrating to worker-owned.

Taking inspiration from the legendary Mondragon Corporation and new startups such as Evergreen Cooperative Corporation, Bioconcentric Farms is pioneering new business startups on a for-profit model. Rather than adopting not-for-profit models, the approach is for profit to become integrated into the economy, not supported by the generosity of others but rather a driving force in economic development, paying local taxes.

Once legalized in the state of Michigan Bioconcentric Farms will seek B Corporation status. At present in its initial formation, Bioconcentric Farms also functions as a Farm Incubator, providing access to land, equipment, and knowledge to beginning farmers. In this sense, it operates like an office incubator, subsidizing business startups. Startups can take on their own life or join the Bioconcentric Farms consortium.
